Fused Silica for Investment Casting: What Buyers Should Include

An investment-casting inquiry should say which step the fused silica is for. Slurry, shell flour, sand and other steps are not the same request. Fused silica is a material a plant may specify for a step. This note does not present it as required for every shell.

Name the step

Tell the supplier whether the lot is for slurry, shell flour, sand or another step in your process. The notes on investment casting uses list those uses as separate items. Your own shell practice decides which item applies.

Grade and particle size

State A Grade or B Grade and the size. Flour and slurry requests are often named as a fine mesh, such as 200, 200F or 325F. A sand step uses a coarser mesh or a millimetre band. Check the size names and send the name your work instruction uses. Each size is confirmed per order.

Say when the step uses powder

If the step uses powder, say so in the same inquiry. Fine powder may need different handling because of dust. The description of the powder form is the form reference. Typical B Grade powder is SiO2 99.7% min, confirmed on the COA for the lot. Typical B Grade grains are SiO2 99.8% min. Do not interchange those typical figures.

Quantity and destination

Add the quantity, the packing and the destination. Destinations on this site include Europe, the United States and Brazil, together with other export destinations. A 100-500 kg trial remains subject to product and shipping confirmation. Packing may be 25 kg bags or a jumbo bag, subject to the order.
