Fused Silica Sand vs. Powder

Fused silica sand, grains and powder are different forms. The purchase order should name the form and the mesh or millimetre range. This note does not tell a plant which form its process must use. That decision stays with the plant specification.

Sand and grains

Sand and grains are the coarser forms. Buyers name a mesh such as 4×10, 10×20, 20×50 or 50×100, or a millimetre band such as 1-3, 3-5 or 3-6. Availability of each cut is confirmed per order. The page on fused silica sand describes that coarser form.

Powder

Powder is the fine form. Common names include 100F, 140F, 200, 200F and 325F mesh. Fine powder may need different handling because of dust, including closed transfer and ordinary housekeeping. The plant decides whether that handling fits the process. See fused silica powder for the powder form.

Typical SiO2 is not the same for every B Grade form

Typical B Grade grains are SiO2 99.8% min. Typical B Grade powder is SiO2 99.7% min. Typical A Grade material is SiO2 99.9% min. Each figure is typical and is confirmed on the COA for the lot, and on the quotation. Do not copy a grain limit onto a powder order without reading that COA.

Name the size in the same words as the sieve sheet

Use the size language so the supplier and the plant mean the same cut. Send the form, the grade and the size together. Receiving can then compare the COA and the sieve result with the order.

Shenzhen Zhixin New Materials Co., Ltd. quotes sand, grain and powder when the inquiry states the grade, the particle size, the quantity and the destination. The destination may be Europe, the United States, Brazil or another country already on your shipping plan.
